Current Projects
Participate in a study with a same sex platonic friend! If you are both between 21 and 29 years old and frequent drinkers, you may be eligible to participate in a research study by investigators at the University of Southern California examining social facilitation and alcohol use. Participation will include completing a one-time remote screening session, one in-person baseline session, four in-person laboratory sessions, taking surveys on your personal mobile phone or other complaint smart device, and two follow-up surveys 6 months and 12 months post-study enrollment. Earn up to $700!

Synchrony: Smoking Cessation in Sexual Minority Couples
This study aims to better understand attempts to quit smoking in couples. Cigarette smokers in same-sex partnerships were invited to participate. In total, roughly 100 couples participated in this study. The study was open to California residents and conducted remotely. Participation involved:
- Making a smoking quit attempt
- Completing questionnaires online
- Taking surveys on a smartphone for 5 weeks
- Completing interviews via video chat and phone
Investigating Smoking Practices In Remote Environments
This study aims to empirically test the effectiveness of mindfulness training on attempts to quit smoking. Cigarette smokers who were motivated to quit were invited to participate. In total, roughly 200 individuals participated in this study. The study was open to California residents and conducted remotely. Participation involved:
- Making a smoking quit attempt
- Completing questionnaires online
- Completing two interviews via video chat and phone
- Listening to daily audio trainings for two weeks
- Completing nightly surveys on a smartphone for 4 weeks
Smoking Cessation Outcomes and Relationships
This study aims to investigate smoking patterns and attempts to quit smoking in couples. Individuals in relationships where both partners were regular cigarette smokers were invited to participate. A portion of couples completed the study before the COVID-19 pandemic, when the study was in-person in Los Angeles, CA, but the majority of couples participated remotely from many different regions of the United States after 2020. Participation involved:
- Making a smoking quit attempt
- Completing questionnaires online
- Completing two interviews via video chat and phone
- Taking short, daily surveys on a smartphone for 4 weeks
